Halloween costumes, candy, harvest decorations and pumpkins (big and small) are available in shops all through October.

Porches and front yards of most houses are decorated with pumpkins, ghosts, witches, monsters or other things too scary to mention here.

And they are even more scary at night!

This is also the season for Giant Pumpkin weigh-offs.
In 2003, the world record holder was this 1385 lb monster, grown by Steve Deletas of Oregon, on display at the Chinook Winds Casino, Lincoln City.

Pumpkins can be made into jack-o'-lanterns, or carved to resemble scary monsters.
