Buena Park

The happiest place on Earth

Our trip to Los Angeles was not all theme parks and Hollywood, though. For starters, there were quite a few attractions in Buena Park, right near our hotel!

Medieval Times is near Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum, opposite the Movieland Wax Museum, and just up the road from Knott's Berry Farm.

On our first night in LA, we went to Medieval Times in Buena Park for a 4-course dinner medieval-style (sans cutlery) and a jousting tournament.

We were cheering for the yellow knight who, alas, did not end up winning the princess' hand in marriage.

Aside from watching gallant knights astride pure-bred horses competing in tournament games, we were also treated to displays of swordplay, falconry and even sorcery, as part of an elaborate pageant.

At the bottom of the column, he backed up his claims by offering the following guarantee: 'On request, sent with stamped addressed envelope, Mr Ripley will furnish proof of anything depicted by him'.

Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum held a weird and wonderful collection of artifacts and snippets of information from all over the world. His newspaper columns used to illustrate many of these.

Behind the tower is a selection of letters sent to Robert Ripley.

I think there was a two-headed snake as well!

Just across the road from Ripley's was the Movieworld Wax Museum. We had our photo taken with George Burns (yes, he's still around!). Each movie star figure was shown in a scene from one of their famous films.

There were so many movie stars that I could not photograph them all. You will hopefully be able to see a sample of them, though, on my Movie Stars page, once I get around to setting it up.

Turning my life around.....
