This cover was sent from Marseille to Rockford, Illinois, postmarked 7 July 1964 at the railway station (Marseille
Gare). Two of the stamps are tied with a pictorial canceller "Route Destination par Marseille" which depicts the Chateau d'If. I would appreciate any info on this marking.
Looking at the back, we can see that the sender is probably the addressee's wife. The initials B.D.R. represent Bouches Du
Rhone, the department in which Marseille is situated (see also station
postmark).
The circled 8 on the front appears to be a letter carrier's canceller, but I
have no info on it.
This cover belongs to a sub-collection of covers franked with four stamps of
the same value.
